Break of Dawn - chapter 14
As soon as the hand fell, everyone on the ring moved to fight another person. In total, there were 98 competitors. Originally, there were 100 however with the recent death of a random participant before the competition and Wang Bo, that number dropped.
Wang Wei was no exception when it came to the fighting and he targeted those at the advanced 3rd stage of the mortal realm first in order to make his future fights easier. Also, he didn’t exactly want to be known for bullying those that were far weaker than him. Those of the 3rd realm and lower were overjoyed at this site because then their own rankings would be higher and make them look better. On the other hand, the advanced 3rd stage competitors could only grit their teeth in anger as their enemy was in the advanced 4th stage, the highest in the competition.
Wang Fu didn’t care much about the actions of Wang Wei and didn’t interfere in the slightest.
“Stop targeting us!”
Some participants couldn’t help but curse aloud when Wang Wei alone removed over 30 competitors. Seeing this, Wang Wei decided to stop attacking and stood still in order to spend some time comprehending One with the Wind.
As soon as Wang Wei stopped, the elders had complicated expressions. Their own sons were there fighting and many already failed. However, the fact that one from the Wang Family could easily defeat so many is a good thing when looking at the big picture. Wang Honghui also had a complex expression, but for different reasons. He was so sure that Wang Bo was a person who would not appear for another hundred years, but right in front of him, there was a youngster with even more talent than Wang Bo.
For the rest of the preliminaries, no one dared to attack Wang Wei and that led to many of the weaker people failing. Half the original participants were left and the elder announced that the next stage would begin at nightfall.
“Wei-er!” Wang Jian called.
Wang Wei heard his name being called and quickly ran over to his father.
“You did great out there. I am sure that you made an impression on everyone who watched, including the elders and even the family head,” Wang Jian praised.
“Thank you, Father, but I do not believe that Family Head would pay attention to someone like me,” Wang Wei said humbly, however inside, he felt quite pleased with himself.
“If that is what you think, then you are mistaken,” Wang Jian laughed. “I saw his face, I think he was not expecting another impressive figure after Wang Bo. My son, I know that you will make me proud but remember I want you to be safe. There are many hidden rules in this world and I can only teach so much. There is much you must need to learn on your own, but know that if one does not show strength, they will be bullied. However, if one shows off too much then they will become a target. One must find a balance between the two extremes.”
“Wei-er understands Father,” Wang Wei said. He felt as if he only understood the surface meaning of those words and that there was more.
“Come now, you must rest for the next stage of the competition. Speaking about that, how do you think that you will fair?” Wang Jian asked.
“Since my cultivation is the highest, my speed should be relatively close to the top so as long as my luck isn’t too bad, I believe that I will pass,” Wang Wei said full of confidence.
Wang Jian laughed, “Good! Good!”
The two of them walked around all of Horn’s Peak and discussed many things ranging from news to women to cultivation. When dusk was coming, they decided to return as it would be better to be early rather than late. With neither fast nor slow speed, they made their way back only to find someone they recognized to be standing in their path.
“Brother Chao, the 2nd stage of the competition is beginning soon so why are you here?” Wang Jian asked confused.
“Brother Jian, I did not come here to cause trouble for you. I have come to shamelessly ask a favor of little friend Wang Wei,” Wang Chao said cupping his hands.
Wang Wei knew that this ‘favor’ definitely involved Wang Fu and spoke, “Elder Chao if by any chance you will ask me to let Wang Fu win, then I am afraid that I will not be able to comply.”
Wang Chao quickly shook his head, “No, while my request is indeed shameless, it is not that shameless! I strongly believe that little friend Wang Wei is capable of winning the competition and I was only hoping that if he wins then he would let bygones be bygones and not make things difficult for my son or myself.” Of course, what Wang Wei said would be best case scenario, but there was a very low chance of it actually happening.
With these words, Wang Wei was put at ease and responded with, “While Wang Fu has indeed made things difficult for me, I am willing to let him off and forget about the past.”
“Thank you, little friend Wang Wei! I will not forget the favor you have done for me!” Wang Chao said very happily with a smile “I know that you must get to the competition so I will not waste any more of your precious time.”
Wang Jian and Wang Wei continued to walk towards the location of the second stage while ignoring Wang Chao.
Neither of them saw that the smile that he had changed into a wicked one.
“That was Wang Wei. I trust that you will honor the agreement,” Wang Chao said.
“Hehe, that Wang Wei is no problem at all,” a voice responded.
Wang Chao began to laugh and also headed to the forest, following the path that Wang Wei and Wang Jian took.
