Break of Dawn - chapter 15
The sun was no longer in the sky however not many people from the Wang Family were asleep because it was at this time when the second stage would begin.
All of the competitors were asked to step forward to distance themselves from the crowd.
“Alright! All of you here must listen as I will only say this once!” the grand elder said.
Everyone fell silent. They were clearly not expecting the grand elder to involve those that were not even competing.
“The objective of this entire competition is to decide our future Family Head! The title itself has the word family in it! That means that we should care and look after one another. So someone give me an explanation as to why out of the 49 competitors that there should be, only 42 are here alive!” The grand elder yelled and his might of someone in the 7th stage caused many to feel pressured to the point of almost vomiting blood.
No one dared to even look the grand elder in the eye as they understood the meaning behind his words.
Seven people were killed and they were unable to notice a thing? Everyone was ashamed!
As a matter of fact, even the grand elder himself did not know that seven people were killed. He received word that only 2 were found dead yet standing before him was a number of people less than what he expected. That enraged him!
While the Wang Family may not be top notch, they were not weak. For people to die in their territory meant that the killer was one their own, or helped another. This competition was the chance for anyone to become the future head of the family! If one had the chance to participate yet did not come, they must not be alive!
“That being said, I want all of you to come out of the forest alive! The strongest beasts in there are in the 9th stage, however, he will not interfere unless you intrude on his territory. I will be in the forest with you all to make sure that nothing shady happens and that none of you even get close to the territory of the Red-Eyed Lion. Unfortunately, the Purple Snake will be harder to keep track of, so a few elders will be watching over you all. They are under orders to not interfere unless it involves the life and death of a family member. If they were to see the Purple Snake, they will keep track of the member that was unlucky enough to encounter it and report back to me,” the grand elder said.
“With that out of the way, let us talk about the second stage of the competition. There are many different types of weapons hidden within the forest. All weapons that are being used have a special mark, so do not even try to cheat. The rating score goes like this: knives or daggers are 5 points, swords are 10 points, spears are 10 points, and axes are 10 points. However, there is a special weapon that is not one of the ones I mentioned. If you find it, you will recognize it and that specific weapon is worth 30 points! When the sun rises, that will be the end of the second stage. Of course, if you feel that you will win, you can come out of the forest sooner. A word of warning though, the weapons that you find, can be taken by your fellow competitors! That means that you must protect them as if they were treasures. While one can take the weapons, they are not allowed to take your other belongings. As I said before, the elders will be watching and will not interfere, however, once you leave the forest, you will be confronted,” the grand elder said sternly.
Everyone was silent and no one raised their hand.
“Good! Now, GO!” the grand elder waved his hand and all the competitors along with a few elders moved towards the forest.
When all of them were already out of sight, the grand elder went in sighing and praying that all would go well.
Unfortunately, his praying will not be effective as soon a calamity would befall them all.
Wang Wei was completely focused and was one of the first ones to rush forward. The reactions of the others were slightly slower and fell behind.
With how dark the forest was, was not an easy task to search for the weapons. At the moment it was only evening and not yet midnight, so the forest would only get darker.
Some people had asked Wang Wei if they could accompany him, however, they were all refused as he wanted to go alone and not split any spoils.
After about half an hour, Wang Wei finally found a weapon. It was an old small dagger that was rusted beyond belief, but it had the special symbol of the grand elder. On the dagger, there was a clear silver halberd that was the sole weapon that the grand elder used.
Wang Wei found the dagger stuck in a tree and struggled quite a bit in order to take it out.
The dagger was small, so it could just be hung around his waist. Knowing that he would be looking for things, Wang Wei brought along a backpack that was made from beast hide and he would put any cultivating resources in there along with any weapons he would find in the near future.
Just like this, half hours turned into hours and midnight came.
At this point in time, Wang Wei had found 2 swords, 5 daggers, and 1 axe. That meant that he had 55 points in total. He was unable to find even a single spear or the special weapon and he was also unsure about how many weapons were even scattered around. Wang Wei saw competitors but didn’t try to steal their weapons and likewise, none tried to steal his, most likely because his cultivation was something they couldn’t fight against.
