Heaven’s Greatest Plan - Chapter 3
The crazy screams that abruptly broke out around her drew Zhao Yu’s attention back.
She raised her head to look towards the stage. The lights that had been on previously darkened and a white fog that she knew was an effect of dry ice gradually appeared on the stage.
The color fans used to show support for Shan Juanyi was red, which matched his personality, brimming with the passion of summertime.
The red sea of support was especially magnificent and beautiful at night. The waves of screams of fans very quickly and with tacit coordination became shouts of his name.
One after another, in an orderly and resounding manner, the fans cheered on for a long, long time.
Zhao Yu was at a bit of a loss and was also a bit shaken.
There was a bit of pride and also a bit of sourness in her heart1.
Those complicated feelings bubbled forth, ultimately converging at the rims of her eyes.
The girl next to her looked at her in surprise. “You’re crying? Aiya2, don’t cry. It hasn’t even started yet! Enjoy the happiness first! You seemed so calm that I thought you were just a passer-by fan. I didn’t think that you love him so deeply hahahahaha!”
While she was comforting her, she was also handing tissues to Zhao Yu.
Zhao Yu thanked her for the tissues. While she was still wiping her snot, the sound of several heartbeats suddenly pulsed from multiple directions through the hi-fi sound system.
The cheering accompanied the music, exploding through the entire arena.
Zhao Yu’s seat was in the middle of the arena, so it could not be considered close to or far from the stage. When Shen Juanyi came up on the stage lift, she still had to look at the LED screen to see his face clearly.
It was their first time meeting each other in two years.
Shen Juanyi was wearing a headset. He looked handsome in his stage makeup and his black hair was swept back other than a few loose strands covered in sparkling glitter that jumped and fell in front of his forehead. He was wearing a red shirt with a deep V, and his abs were faintly discernible. He had an astonishingly energetic look when he sang and danced.
Zhao Yu had never seen him like this.
She saw that as he danced, his neckline slid down slightly, exposing a wide expanse of his sexy collarbones. Seeing this, her ears couldn’t help but redden and she had to cover her eyes.
The girl next to her had screamed to the point that her throat was about to split open and frantically came to break off her hand3. “His collarbones~~~~~~! Look! Look! Why are you covering your eyes?!!!”
With her face red from restraint, Zhao Yu peeked at him through the gaps between her fingers.
His familiar voice rang in her ears.
Although his voice was a little breathy while he was singing and dancing, his stage presence was so amazing, so explosive, that this tiny flaw could be completely ignored.
She gradually became immersed in his charisma.
After the three opening songs ended, he finally came to a stop, panting for breath. He looked all around with a smile, he raised his voice above all the screams: “Welcome to my show4!”
At that moment, Zhao Yu suddenly thought, He deserves to be a star.
Her xiao gege shone and sparkled and he was born to be a king on the stage.
The surrounding screams rose and fell with countless people loudly screaming “I love you.” All of them gave their love and passion completely and without reservation to that young man on stage.
Zhao Yu felt more clearly than ever the distance between him and herself.
It was an unreachable distance.
He was no longer the xiao gege that had previously taken her to climb trees to steal from bird nests and imitated her dog crawl5 handwriting to secretly help her write about her summer activities.
When the concert ended, Zhao Yu cried more wretchedly than every single fan surrounding her.
The girl that had previously been chatting with her the entire time passed her all of the tissues that she had left after she finished crying herself, consoling her while smiling and crying. “Don’t cry. This is only the first concert. There will be countless concerts in the future! Hahahaha. Stop crying soon. Seeing you like this, I can’t keep crying anymore.”
She took out her phone. “Let’s add each other on Weixin6. Whenever there are events in the future, let’s go together!”
While crying, Zhao Yu said, “I don’t have WeiXin. I only have QQ7. Wuwuwu8……”
The girl was so amused by her that she burst into loud laughter. “Then let’s first add each other on QQ. After you get Weixin, we can add each other there. You can register with your phone number. It’s very simple.”
Zhao Yu departed while wiping away her tears. The two had added each other as friends and shared their contact information and full names. The girl was named Lin Yi and she was a second-year student at a university in Beijing.
People were crowded outside the arena. The curtain of night had already descended. Lin Yi’s dormitory check was very strict so she hurriedly left after saying goodbye. Zhao Yu got into line to use the bathroom and departed slowly.
Jiang Lei knew that she had gone to see a concert tonight and picked the time when the concert ended to give her a call. “Youngest child9, are you on your way back yet?”
Zhao Yu said in a muffled10 voice, “I’m still waiting for a cab. There are too many people.”
Jiang Lei asked, “What do you want to eat as a late-night snack? Mom11 will make it for you.”
Zhao Yu said, “I’m not going to eat! I need to lose weight!”
Jiang Lei was amused. “You aren’t fat so why do you want to lose weight?”
Zhao Yu clenched her fists. “The TV will make a person look wider. I need to be a bit thinner so that I can become a star!”
Jiang Lei: “……Hurry back12. Pay attention to safety while you’re on the road. Send the license plate number to mom when you get in the cab.”
Zhao Yu hung up the phone in disappointment.
She had already walked some distance away so there weren’t as many fans gathered around her. The traffic police and security guards were just then opening the restricted area to allow vehicles to pass. She took a few breaths of the summer night air, which was somewhat dry and warm, and then looked again at the still brightened screen of her phone.
After a long time, she swiped open her contacts with a somewhat shaky finger and found Shen Juanyi’s phone number.
She nervously took a quick glance all around her, breathed deeply for a long time, and then finally summoned her courage to make the phone call.
The ringing seemed to go on for an eternity13.
Zhao Yu felt that her heart was about to jump out of her throat when the phone call finally connected. Her throat tightened and she called out in a quiet voice, “Juanyi gege……”
From the other side, an unfamiliar and vigilant voice responded, “Who are you?”
Zhao Yu brought her phone down to check the number she had called, brought it back to her ear, and then nervously said, “I……I’m looking for Shen Juanyi……”
That voice became even more guarded. “Why are you looking for him?”
Sweat had already broken out on Zhao Yu’s forehead and she was speechless for some time.
Then a familiar voice came through from far beyond the phone’s mic. “Zhou Ge, who’s looking for me?”
The unfamiliar man who answered the phone didn’t respond. He only said in an extremely severe tone, “Didn’t I tell you that for now you shouldn’t be in contact with any unnecessary women? Are you resentful because last time’s sex scandal wasn’t enough of a mess? Why is there a woman I don’t know in your contacts?”
Shen Juanyi’s voice came closer. “Let me see who it is……It’s Xiao14 Yu, a meimei15 from my hometown16.”
Furrowing his brows, the manager Bi Zhou asked, “What meimei? Is she a relative?”
Shen Juanyi said with a smile, “No, she’s a xiao meimei from the family next door. Give me the phone.”
The phone was handed over but Zhao Yu could still hear the manager saying with a warning tone, “Since she isn’t a relative, have less contact with her. You understand yourself how attentively the paparazzi are following you.”
He happily and laughingly agreed. Finally, his voice came through clearly. “Hey, Xiao Yu. What’s going on?”
Zhao Yu’s mouth opened and closed several times before she could finally speak. “Juan……I, I don’t have anything going on.”
His voice was still as fervent as it used to be. “Have you come to Beijing? My concert ended tonight. When you’re free, I’ll treat you to a meal.”
Zhao Yu felt a burning pain at the rims of her eyes. She forced herself to laugh. “There’s no need. I’m about to start school and……and I’m really busy.”
It was somewhat noisy on Shen Juanyi’s side with everyone mutually calling out to one another to go to the site of the celebratory feast. Zhao Yu heard someone call out to him and hurriedly said, “Go take care of what you’re busy with. I’m hanging up.”
Without waiting for Shen Juanyi to respond, she hung up at lightning speed.
The wind of the summer night continued to be warm and dry but the one phone call seemed to use up all of her strength, making both of her legs weaken so that she was somewhat unstable on her feet.
Zhao Yu supported herself on the street lamp next to her, slowly sitting down on the street stairs.
They were no longer people of the same world.
She knew about the sex scandal that the manager mentioned.
Last month, a member of the paparazzi took photos of Shen Juanyi bringing a young woman into and out of his home. The information that the woman was one of his backup dancers was dug out and a sex scandal involving the two of them broke out, sparking a heated debate all over the internet.
In the end, Shen Juanyi posted a Weibo to deny the rumor, saying that that backup dancer went to his home to have a look at his goldfish to help him figure out why they always died.
That backup dancer majored in animal husbandry and was a vet before she became a dancer.
Numerous internet users were dumbfounded by this reversal.
The backup dancer even posted her diploma and previous license to practice veterinary medicine online along with photos of the fish tank in Shen Juanyi’s home.
Although most people believed that this proved the rumor false while not knowing whether they should laugh or cry, after all, Shen Juanyi was a person standing at the peak of internet traffic and there were many opponents that watched him attentively to seize on any black point17 to vilify him to death.
Black fans18 seized this point about his dating secretly and refused to let it go, opening up a Tieba19 with all the details about the romantic love between him and his backup dancer. They created many brainwashing packages20. Many people believed that the two were dating. This recently had a very large impact on him.
She herself couldn’t inconvenience him further.
A cab stopped in front of her. The driver asked her in Beijing accent, “Young lady, are you looking for a ride?”
Zhao Yu grasped her head and wailed loudly.
The driver was so frightened that he floored the accelerator and left in a whirlwind.
August in Beijing was extremely hot.
After the concert ended, Zhao Yu again listlessly withered away at home for several days. Every day, she browsed through the super topic and watched videos, learning the lingo from the fan circle that she didn’t understand from Lin Yi.
This carried on for a week until Jiang Yu returned to Beijing.
After just finishing the shooting of a project, after just dragging his suitcase and opening his door to enter his home, he saw his niece, who was lying on the sofa, jump up like a carp and dash excitedly towards him.
“Jiujiu, you’ve finally come back! Are you tired? Give me your suitcase. I’ll put it away for you. Have you eaten? It’s so hot outside. I’ll pour you a glass of water!”
Jiang Yu: “?”
He had called ahead so Jiang Lei was in the middle of cooking dinner in the kitchen. Hearing signs of activity, she stepped out and said, “You’re back.”
Jiang Yu nodded his head, watching that niece of his as she solicitiously helped him take care of his suitcase, and asked his jiejie, “What’s going on with Yuyu21?”
Jiang Lei showed an exasperated expression.
Jiang Yu thought of something, asking only after drinking some water, “It can’t be that she still wants to become a star?”
Jiang Lei nodded and then sighed as she returned to the kitchen.
As expected, after Zhao Yu finished her solicitous display, seeing Jiang Yu looking at his phone while sitting on the sofa, she stumbled over and sat on the little stool next to his feet, and in an extremely cute way, she called for him: “Jiujiu~”
Jiang Yu took a glimpse of her from the corner of his eyes. “You want to be a star?”
Zhao Yu: “Yes!”
After Jiang Yu finished browsing the news, he calmly22 sized up his niece a few times before asking, “Why do you suddenly want to be a star?”
Zhao Yu glanced to the left and to the right somewhat unnaturally, so Jiang Yu said, “If you can’t tell me the reason, this matter will no longer be discussed.”
Zhao Yu became anxious and stood up after some hesitation. “Jiujiu, don’t you feel that with my qualifications, if I don’t become a star, our country’s entertainment industry will suffer a loss?!”
Jiang Yu: “?”
The author has something to say:
Sooner or later there will come a day when Yuyu will make me laugh to death
