How To Refuse King Scouts - Chapter 9
2. In a New City
Not knowing that the kingdom was anxiously looking for a wizard, Amelia had already arrived in the capital, Crawford.
“It’s so chaotic.”
It was literally chaotic, and it was as lively as it looked. Looking east or west, there were many people working hard and sweating. Watching them gave Amelia courage. She felt like she could live really well in this new city where everything was being built.
“Let’s get our accommodation first!”
With all the facilities lacking, there were many inns built first for those who came to work. In front of a row of inns, Amelia wondered which place to choose. Meanwhile, she passed in front of an inn and stopped walking. It smelled very delicious.
“Shall we stay here?”
〈Blue Roof Inn〉. The inn was a three-story building with a blue roof as its name suggests.
The lady with a bright expression greeted Amelia. As soon as she saw Amelia’s luggage, she noticed that she was a newcomer to the city.
“Are you going to stay for a long time?”
“I think I’ll stay here until I get a house.”
She doesn’t know when she can find a house she likes, so she could not tell for sure. But as soon as the lady heard Amelia’s words, she smiled and concluded.
“That’s a long-term stay.”
Amelia, who saw the staff lady’s reaction, couldn’t help but ask back with a worried face.
“Uh, is it that hard to find a house?”
“I guess so.”
She briefly told her how the city was going.
“The most you’ve seen on your way here is probably the construction site. We’re building new palaces and walls, but we’re also building new residential areas.”
“Yeah. They are all being demolished and rebuilt. How can a house be built overnight?”
There are many houses that were demolished, but there are few houses completed, so the house is precious.
“These days, even natives of Crawford often stay in the inn. If you buy it now, you will have to buy an old house at a very high price.”
Amelia could not hide her disappointment at the staff lady’s remark that she could not find a house immediately. It was even more so because a wizard needed a personal workshop. In particular, Amelia, who wanted to hide her identity, needed workshops more than any other wizard.
‘For the time being, I’ll just have to make simple scrolls.’
It was inevitable because there was no workshop. Scroll production was also well-earned, but it was not satisfactory. For months, Amelia’s main focus had been on special magic tools that only she could make.
‘I’ll have to tighten my belt until I have a workshop.’
The staff lady gave a new hope to Amelia, who was darkened.
“If you have some money, there’s a way.”
“What is it?”
Amelia pricked up her ears at her words.
“You buy the land and build your own house. The land is cheap.”
“Build your own house?”
“Yes, people who bring in enough settlement money go this route. You can buy and ask for the land you like in a designated residential area. It’s cheaper than buying a house with it, and it’s faster than waiting for a state-built house.”
Building your own house was a very new idea for Amelia. She was very pleased with the method.
‘If you build it yourself, you can make the workshop as big as you want!’
The staff lady smiled as Amelia, who had been darkened brightened.
“Did my information help you?”
“Yes, thank you very much.”
Within hours of arriving in the city, she got some really useful information. Amelia might have decided to suffer for days and lose money if the staff hadn’t informed her.
“I’m Lili. I’m the owner’s daughter and staff of this blue roof inn.”
Lili took Amelia with her sparkle eyes to the counter.
“Come this way.”
She took out a lodging card inside the counter and checked the empty room.
“The sunny single room on the second floor is empty, should I give it to you? Or to the shared room?”
“I’ll have a single room!”
Amelia, who has a lot of things to hide, quickly chose a single room.
“That’s a good idea. Actually, there’s only one room left. If you pay 10 days in advance, we’ll give you a 10% discount. What would you like to do?”
“Then I’ll pay for 10 days first.”
“Thank you, miss. If you’re going to extend it, please let me know a day before the end of the stay.”
Lili greeted neatly and received the money. And she led Amelia right into the room. She also helped carry her luggage up the stairs.
“The bag isn’t as heavy as I thought it would be?”
It wouldn’t be heavy because it was a bag with magic. Lili never imagined that the bag she was holding contained a load to fill a house.
“Haha, I mostly organized it before I came here.”
“Well, it’s hard when the luggage is heavy. If you need help shopping, feel free to tell me.”
Amelia’s room was not too small or too wide; it’s adequate. There was a single bed, a table, and a chair, and a hanger with a small drawer for clothes. As Lili said, the sunlight came in well through the wide window.
“This is a nice room.”
It was also cleaned neatly. It was not comparable to the stuffy and shabby inns that she stayed in the past.
“Breakfast is only served between eight and ten, so be careful not to be late. Are you going to eat now?”
“Okay. Please unpack and come down.”
After guiding Amelia, Lili left the room. Amelia placed her bag next to the bed, sat on the bed and looked out the window. The building was dismantled and the vacant land was seen everywhere. She could see the ground building everywhere, but most of it was just dust.
“You mean I have to choose the land among those?”
Amelia scrolled through the vacant lots with her eyes glistening.
“But which land should I buy?”
It was a house to settle down for a long time, but it couldn’t be built anywhere. She thought hard, but there was no additional knowledge to gain or resolution.
As she was in deep thought, Amelia’s stomach cried out in hunger.
“Let’s eat first. I’ll eat and ask Mrs. Lili!”
Amelia arbitrarily interpreted Lili words that she said would help her shopping. Then she felt much more comfortable now that all the problems were solved.
When she went down to the first floor and locked the door firmly, it was still in the middle of a meal time. There were many people who ordered and many people were already eating. Amelia sat on an empty table and called Lili.
“Would you like to order?”
“What is the most popular menu? If you have a menu you can recommend, you can recommend it.”
The delicious smell filled the first floor made Amelia’s expectations rise. Lili recommended a special lunch set to a guest who has bright eyes with a hungry face.
“This is the best menu when you are hungry. You will be satisfied if you try it.”
“Then I’ll take it.”
When Amelia decided on the menu, the dishes began to come out one by one. There was also soft bread, hot soup with dried seaweed, a loaf of pork barbecue, and spicy noodles with chicken.
“I’ll give it to you for free since you’re going to stay for a long time. I look forward to your kind cooperation.”
“Please take good care of me. Thanks for the drink, too.”
“Call me if you need more.”
The addition of the fruit drink Lili gave her made it too much to eat alone. Amelia lifted a spoon once to soothe her stomach, which stirred even more with the food in front of her eyes.
“Wow, it’s delicious!”
It looked like a common soup that could be eaten anywhere, but it wasn’t. It was a deep dish that impressed her as she ate more.
The bread was delicious, too. Every time she chewed, the savory taste came up. Both the pork barbecue and the noodles tasted better than she thought. Amelia moved her hands busily and kept her mouth shut.
“I didn’t know my sense of smell was so accurate”
It was even more amazing because it was an inn that she chose only for the smell of food. Amelia swallowed the last remaining meat and stroked her stuffed stomach. The table, which was so abundant that it was doubtful if it would be all eaten, was completely clean.
“How was the food?”
Lili, who came to clear the table, was smiling as she asked a question. she looked like she already knew the answer. Amelia praised the food more than Lili expected.
“It was really delicious. I’ve never tasted such delicious food before!”
It was an embarrassing compliment, but it was not a lie. Amelia, who had been enslaved all her life, had no chance to eat such food.
“It’s a taste I want to eat every day!”
“Now that you’re staying here, you’ll be able to eat it every day.”
Amelia’s cheeks were flushed with happiness when she was full. Lili felt that Amelia was cute.
“Are you going to find a house now?”
Lili sat down at the table to chat a little more with this cute customer. Although she was an employee, she wasn’t hired, and she was the daughter of an inn owner, so she could rest confidently without having to worry about a break time.
Amelia recalled that when Lili brought up the topic of finding a house, she decided to ask her for help. She straightened up and made a serious face.
“Oh, I’d rather buy land than a house.”
Lili opened her eyes wide. It was because Amelia didn’t seem rich enough to buy land and build a house. The only reason she told Amelia such a story was to tell her new guests about the city’s situation.
‘I was just telling you so you won’t be cheated.’
